1. Ascott’s global portfolio crosses 100k units

Ascott’s portfolio has recently been boosted to over 100k units after securing contracts for another 26 properties comprising 4,600 units across 18 cities and 11 countries. This marks a second consecutive year of record growth for Ascott and makes it one of the fastest growing global players in the lodging industry.

2. ‘Immersible tourism’ tops consumer trends impacting spending

According to Trendalytics’ latest ‘Consumer Intelligence Report’, experiential trends remain at the top of the list of where consumers spend their money. The analysis showed that ‘immersible tourism’, ‘accessible adventures’ and ‘feel good commerce’ were the top three most notable consumer trends.

3. Etihad Airways flies the world’s first flight using sustainable fuel

The world’s first commercial flight using locally-produced sustainable fuel has taken place on an Etihad Airways Boeing 787, the Sustainable Bioenergy Research Consortium has announced. The flight from Abu Dhabi to Amsterdam was operated on fuel derived from oil in Salicornia plants, which were grown on the SEAS farm in Masdar City.

4. Travel just as important as education to British parents

School holidays are not the only time of year you can expect kids at your property, new research has found. The survey, conducted by Villa Plus, found that two thirds (70%) of British parents would be willing to take their child out of school during term time. When asked to provide comments on the reasons for taking their child out of school, the top answers were: ‘travel is just as important as education’, ‘some parents don’t have a choice when they take holidays’ and ‘it’s cheaper’.
