1. Austria adds Chinese mobile payments
In a bid to drive Chinese tourism and spending, more of Austria’s secondary cities and towns are now accepting mobile payment options like Alipay and WeChat Pay. To facilitate this change, Wirecard has partnered with the Tyrol state tourism organisation, Tirol Werbung, to offer mobile payment services across the region.
2. Ibiza becomes most profitable vacation destination in Spain
New research from Exceltur has revealed that Ibiza has become the most profitable Spanish vacation destination for the hotel industry. San Josep de Sa Talaia is the municipality that took top spot, with revenue per available room (RevPAR) of €124.10 last year – a 10.5% rise compared with 2017. Despite the island’s capital, Eivissa, experiencing a 7.1% drop, it still landed in second spot with a RevPAR of €121.80.
3. Personalisation remains top issue for travel marketers
According to a new study by digital marketing firm Sojern, 46% of travel industry marketers regard the delivery of personalised ads and offers in real-time as the top challenge for the year ahead. Other considerations included understanding how to use customer data more effectively (44%) and managing pricing and profitability across distribution and marketing partners (42%).
4. Hilton launches new brand aimed at MICE industry
Hilton has announced the launch of Signia Hilton, a new brand focused on meetings and events. Each property will offer a minimum of 500 guest rooms and 75 square feet per key of flexible meetings and events space. Features will include a destination bar, premium wellness facilities and the Signia meeting experience, which will feature “the newest technologies to elevate today’s meetings”.
